Callow travelled on a sketching holiday with his wife to Tewkesbury, Worcester and Hereford in the early Autumn of 1848 and then on to South Wales by way of the well-trodden Wye Valley route (1) (2). Several of these views were exhibited the following year at the OWS but, as was typical of Callow's practice, a number were not exhibited until much later in his career.
