The present work is a study for the finished drawing (in reverse) of Miss Julia Emily Gordon (Tate Gallery, London, acc. no. N01740). Alex Kidson has previously confirmed the attribution and identified the subject. The work will be included in Hamish Miles' forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Wilkie's works.
