Henry Richard Beadon Donne was educated at Sherborne School, Dorset, before joining the Norfolk regiment and serving for a number of years in India and Burma. He painted numerous views of the former, including further depictions of the Taj Mahal, landmarks within Delhi and around the Himalayas.

 

He later specialised in alpine views, exhibiting at the Alpine club regularly for three decades. He was awarded both Bath and Garter honours for his service in India, as well as the Portugese Military Order of Aviz, and retired having served as Assistant Adjutant General.
