Lady Elizabeth Percy was the second daughter of the 1st Earl of Beverley and niece of the 4th Duke of Northumberland (the First Lord of the Admiralty). Elizabeth travelled around continental Europe on her Grand Tour, possibly accompanied by an as-yet-unknown drawing instructor as many tourists were, and was in Rome between 1834-1838.
Paintings by Percy have appeared at auction a number of times, including the largest single-owner collection of her drawings, which was sold at Bonham's, Knightsbridge in 2019. Her works can also be found in several museums worldwide, including the Tate Britain and the Florida Museum of Fine Arts.
