CLEMENTE PAOLO GINI (fl. 1624-1625)
SOLD TO THE BRITISH MUSEUM, LONDON
A WOODED LANDSCAPE WITH A TOWER BY A BRIDGE
[AFTER REMIGIO CANTAGALLINA (c.1582-1656)]
Numbered, dated & signed in plate l.m. 8 CRG. IN. PCG EX. 1625
Etching on laid paper [1st & final state]
Plate: 14 x 20 cm / Sheet 17.3 x 23.7 cm
For many years thought by scholars and curators to have been etched by Cristofano Paolo Galli (a student of Cantagallina), this print and a number of other similar works bearing the same monogram (CPG) were, in 2013, demonstrated by Stefano Rinaldi to have been made by Clemente Paolo Gini [1].
We were delighted therefore to reunite this print, with the entire edition thought at one point not to be extant any more, with the original drawing in the British Museum (BM. 1946,0713.709).
